Super Eagles ‘stoned’ in Addis

NAIJA FANS STONEDLAGOS, Nigeria, October 14- The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will lodge an official complaint to World Football governing body, Fifa over what it says was the ill treatment meted to the Super Eagles during the team’s two-day stay in Ethiopia.

In a release made available to SuperSport.com by the media department of the Nigeria national team, it was alleged that “on arrival (in Ethiopia), the Eagles were given a bus infested with cockroaches but the team took it in its stride.”

The release further stated that “when it was time for training, the police team attached to the (Super Eagles) deliberately took routes that are traffic-jammed, yet the team refused to be intimidated”.

The NFF is also accusing the Ethiopians of meting out ill treatment to the Nigerian supporters at the stadium on match day.

“Matters came to a head on match day, when all manner of soft drink bottles were hauled at Nigerian players and supporters when the Ethiopians thought that they had scored an opener in the first half,” the release further read.

The NFF will also highlight the incidents they claimed occurred after the game when Ethiopian fans were said to have “laid ambush and started stoning the (Nigerian) team’s bus”.

“One of the heavy stones shattered the rear windscreen of the bus, sending all inside the bus scampering for safety.

“With all taking cover. Real Betis star, Nosa Igiebor was the unlucky one as the stone slashed his right palm leading to profuse bleeding that was immediately attended to by team doctor, Ibrahim Gyaran,” the release read.

The NFF has however insisted that the Ethiopians will not be maltreated when they visit Calabar for the return leg in November.
