NAIROBI, Kenya, September 13 – Veterans of New Zealand All Blacks will be among the attractions lined up for the inaugural Mount Kenya 10s set for Nanyuki on the weekend of September 28 and 29.
The event to be hosted at the Nanyuki Sports Club will see 32 teams including 16 clubs in the Kenya Cup plus three foreign teams that will participate in the Safaricom Safari Sevens invited.
Speaking during the launch, tournament director Patrick Mwangi said that the annual event will bring back the glory of rugby in the region with the help of Nanyuki Sports Club who were promoted in the Division one league.
“we are very happy to have the tournament in this region since our very own team called the Jackals will participate, it’s a new team and its full of young and fast players, I believe they will give the big teams a look and a feel of touch what to expect from us,” said Mwangi.
The tournament Director further said that they have extended an invitation to the national sevens team to camp in Nanyuki for one week before they leave for Gold Coast to kick off their 2013/14 HSBC Sevens World Series.
This is the second time the 10s format to be held in Kenya after the Menengai 10s that is hosted by Nakuru. Entrance for the event is Sh200.
