LONDON, England, September 1- Wayne Rooney could miss Manchester United’s clash with Liverpool after suffering a head injury at training on Saturday, according to reports in the British press.
The Sunday Mirror reports Rooney collided with team-mate Phil Jones and sustained a cut to his forehead, putting him in doubt for the trip to Anfield and England’s World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine this week.
It is believed the 27-year-old required stitches after leaving United’s Carrington training ground heavily bandaged and is not expected to recover in time for Sunday’s match.
Prior to the training session, United boss David Moyes praised Rooney and highlighted the striker as a key to overcoming Brendan Rodgers’ side.
“I felt he played very well the other night [against Chelsea] and he’s looking in good condition and is mentally in good shape too,” Moyes said. “We’ll do everything we possibly can to keep that going and need him to keep performing well. At the moment, he’s in good shape.”
