NAIROBI, Kenya, December 10- National champions Orange reclaimed the Africa Cup of Club Championships women’s crown in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.
The team, who last won the crown in 2009, ousted Customs of Ghana 4-2 on post-match penalties at Sunday’s decider.
According to the team coach, Jos Openda, the team was psychologically and physically prepared for the tournament that kicked off on December 1.
“We were very dedicated to our training and the team was very ready to face off the rest of Africa,” said Openda.
Orange were held to a 1-1 draw by fellow Kenyans, Strathmore Scorpions before registering a similar outcome when they faced holders Heartland Queens of Nigeria.
A barren draw against Customs completed their pool fixtures before they thrashed hosts Bulawayo 4-1 in the quarters to seal their semi berth where Reformers of Ghana were eclipsed 1-0.
Openda infused new players into his squad overseeing a successful transition from the old guard with the change paying off.
“We are very proud of our team for living up to its promise of bringing the trophy back home. This is indeed testimony that our team is by far, the best in the country and now in Africa,” added Orange Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer, Vincent Camadro remarked.
