Wanga braced to fire Ingwe to title

NAIROBI, Kenya, March 21 – AFC Leopards on fire striker Allan Wanga is promising to maintain his current run of scoring form at club level as well as standing out in the national team Harambee Stars.

“My aim is to help my team to keep winning our league games eventually lift the title and represent the country at the continentals as long as I stay fit. When you do well for your team, the performance is easily replicated in the national team”, Wanga told Capital FM Sport.

Wanga a former striker with Vietnamese side HAGL who returned to the country recently is grateful to his club for the warm welcome and giving him a chance to play in the team that has not lost any match league yet and currently tops standings.

The striker has so far slotted in three goals in the five matches for Ingwe in addition to sinking the winner when Stars played Togo in the first round Africa Nations Cup qualifier in February.

“I am taking a game at a time for now, concentrating on carrying on of the recent success of my team and perhaps later on maybe become the top scorer at the end of the season,” Wanga said after a training session with Leopards.

Even though he did not find the back of the net during their Sunday derby with fierce rivals Gor, he is content that he gave a good performance during their barren draw with 10 men K’Ogalo.

“I’m not worried about the constant marking by defenders which is a normal occurrence for any striker since it gives me a challenge to perform even better,” a confident Wanga that top scored in the league when he turned out for the winning Tusker in 2007 said.

He is glad that the Kenyan Premier League is growing rapidly with the great competition between clubs and considerable support from the fans across the country.

“If I give my current team the finest effort, I believe that good tidings will come but for now my mind is focused on AFC,” Wanga said of the prospects of returning abroad where it did not work out before he pitched camp with Ingwe KPL rival Sofapaka.

Leopards next fixture will be away to seventh placed Western Stima in Mumias on Saturday.
