Gor to unveil new bench on Thursday

NAIROBI, Kenya, March 5- Gor Mahia will unveil their new technical bench on Thursday after sending head coach, Anaba Anono and his entire team packing.

The Cameroonian national who was confirmed to the post ahead of this season and his backroom staff led by his assistant Ken Odhiambo were shown the door on Monday after the club lost four games on the trot.

“We have disbanded the entire Gor Mahia technical bench. All the members were on a three month probationary period that ends on March 31 and we have decided to discontinue the probation,” Gor chair, Ambrose Rachier announced.

Former player, Bob Ogolla will take temporally charge assisted by Tom Ogweno who was appointed the interim team manager.

Jolawi Obondo (Technical Director/Team Manager), Zablon Otieno (Assistant Coach), Razak Siwa (Goal Keepers Coach) and Julius Owino (Fitness, Strength and Conditioning Coach) were also been sent home.

Rachier said pressure from fans had not informed the decision to dispense of the services of the Cameroonian who was appointed after a ‘rigorous process of recruiting persons to constitute the Gor Mahia technical bench.’

“We have actually not sacked any coach, this is the first time we are disbanding the bench. I want to correct the impression that we have been guilty of sacking the coaches.

“What we have done, is not sack the coach, we feel it’s the responsibility of the entire technical bench and that is why we have disband it,” the chair charged.

The last straw for Anaba came on Sunday when Gor were beaten 1-0 at Karuturi Sport in Naivasha in a result that saw their volatile fans turn on the coach.

That followed their stunning 1-0 reverse to newly promoted Muhoroni Youth and the 3-0 hiding they received in Maputo at the hands of Ferroviario de Maputo in their first-leg CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round clash in Mozambique.

“We set a target of winning a number of trophies up for grabs in 2012 and defending the one we won last season. It has become evident our technical bench is not working towards this goal,” Rachier stormed.

The new man in charge has the stern test of reversing the 3-0 score against Ferroviario in the return leg of the CAF Confederation tie this weekend.
