Togo arrive to face Stars, Adebayor to link up

NAIROBI, Kenya, February 26- The Sparrow Hawks of Togo arrived in Nairobi on Sunday minus their star player Emmanuel Adebayor for their 2013 Africa Nations Cup qualifier against Harambee Stars on Wednesday.

The Togolese side under their coach Didier Dix has named 20 players in his squad with Tottenham Hotspurs forward Adebayor, who netted against his former club Arsenal in their 5-2 North London derby defeat expected in on Monday.

The visiting side was first booked to Strand Hotel in Nairobi and are expected to transfer to the Red Court Hotel in Nairobi’s South C estate.

Stars captain, Dennis Oliech who was due in also on Sunday will face French Ligue 1 club AJ Auxerre teammate, Prince Segbefia with the midfielder among the travelling party.

The Sparrow Hawks who appeared in the 2006 World Cup boast only one Togo based player in striker Arimiyaou Jondo who turns out for Okiti with majority of their side playing in Europe and South Africa.

Nyayo National Stadium will host the first leg of the knock-out match at 4pm (+3GMT) on Wednesday with Football Kenya Federation saying 25,500 tickets have been printed for the crucial match.

Stars have been training for the tie at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, the country’s biggest stadium that is still under renovation hence the use of the much smaller Nyayo whose ban on international games was temporarily lifted by FIFA and CAF to allow Nations Cup and 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

The return leg of the encounter is set for June in Lome, Togo.

Attackers: Emmanuel Shéyi Adebayor (Tottenham, England), Serge Gakpé (Standard de Liège, Belgium) and Arimiyaou Kondo (Okiti, Togo)
