NAIROBI, Kenya, February 13- Kenya lifted the Plate title at the USA Sevens in Las Vegas courtesy of a 21-7 win over Argentina early Monday to move up the World Series rankings.
Mitch Ocholla’s squad had to come from behind after Argentinean Agustin Migiliore’s early converted try but captain Sidney Ashioya reduced the deficit towards the end of the first half with Nato Simiyu converting to level the scores at 7-7 heading into the interval.
Humphrey Kayange put Kenya ahead upon resumption, Simiyu converting to take the scores to 14-7 before David Ambunya put the issue beyond doubt, his try converted by Kayange to hand Kenya the 21-7 result.
The sides best showing in this season’s IRB World Series saw them double their points tally from 13 to 26 as they moved up to 12th in the table led by New Zealand.
Kenya earlier beat Wales 22-14 in the plate semis after bowing out of the Main Cup competition at the hands of eventual USA Sevens winners Samoa who edged them 19-14.
The team had earlier topped pool D, registering 17-14 and 38-0 wins over Scotland and Brazil before playing to a 7-7 draw with England in their final pool game.
Kenya will next be in action during the Hong Sevens and the inaugural leg in Japan that take place late March.
