NAIROBI, Kenya, January 9- After donning his spikes for the first time in over a decade, 1987 world marathon champion, Douglas Wakiihuri returns to compete in Bermuda this weekend.
The 48-year-old 1988 Olympic silver medallist and 1991 Commonwealth gold winner will feature in the 35th Fairmont to Fairmont Road Race and left the country on Saturday.
“I have been training for this race and I’m out to do my best and it is a fantastic feeling returning to Bermuda,” Wakiihuri said.
The 11.7km race is expected to attract around 300 competitors and will for the first time includes a corporate relay, which will see teams of three run two miles each.
It begins at The Fairmont Hamilton Princess at 9am (local time) and finishes at The Fairmont Southampton’s Ocean Club.
Proceeds from the race will be donated to Wakiihuri’s charity for children in Kibera, Kenya, and the local Family Learning Centre on Point Finger Road.
Promising compatriot, Gideon Kigotho, will also feature.
