NAIROBI, Kenya, December 1- Newly crowned Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions, Tusker FC, received a brand new team bus and a winning bonus of Sh1 million from their sponsors East Africa Breweries on Thursday.
Presenting the team bus and cash reward, EABL Group Managing Director, Seni Adetu said that the company was pleased with the performance of the team and the company was fully committed to supporting the side.
“Our support for Tusker FC fits very well within our strategy to develop talent and improve the standards of football. EABL now supports the Harambee Stars in Kenya, Taifa Stars in Tanzania, the Uganda Super League in Uganda and we are the main sponsors of the CECAFA Tusker Cup, currently being played in Dar es Salaam,” Adetu noted.
He added: “Our vision to see an East African team qualify for both the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2014 World Cup in Brazil is still alive and we are optimistic that the standards of football in the region will improve sufficiently enough to give us this result.”
Tusker Chairman, James Musyoki said the team appreciated the support.
“Tusker is a strong team because it has strong backing from EABL and our success on the field mirrors the success of the company and the brand that supports us,” Musyoki said.
“Our team is 100 percent brewed from quality ingredients and boasts of a strong line up, made up of African talent,” he added.
The Brewers, who secured their ninth domestic club title, sealed the crown with a nervy 1-0 victory over relegated Congo United last Saturday in Mumias with defender Joseph Shikokoti netting the all important goal in the 48th minute.
It was their first time since 2007 to bag the trophy and their first since the top tier club competition was renamed KPL.
Tusker, who will feature in a Jamhuri Day Cup (December 12) clash against either Gor Mahia or Sofapaka will now represent Kenya in both the Africa Champions League and the CECAFA Club Championship.
