NAIROBI, Kenya, October 12 – National sevens team captain Humphrey Kayange will take a two year break to pursue further studies at Bristol University. The 29 year old will be studying for his masters in chemistry.
As a result, Kayange who was nominated for International Rugby Board (IRB) sevens player of the year in 2009 will miss out on the upcoming Safaricom 7s as well as the next two IRB seasons.
Kenya Rugby Union chairman Mwangi Muthee said Wednesday that the team will miss the services of their inspirational captain.
“His on and off the pitch dedication the country was unwanted but we wish Humphrey every success in his education while we also pay tribute to his exemplary leadership of our national team in that past several seasons,” said Muthee.
At the same time, Coca Cola has announced a Shs3.8 million sponsorship deal for this year’s Safari Sevens tournament.
Out of the total amount, Shs 3million would go towards the event organization and while the Shs0.8million will be form of water that would be consumed by teams participating in the tournament.
Coca cola being one of the safaricom seven’s sponsors will be the official energy drink available to all players during the tournament.
