Rudisha races to British all comers record

NAIROBI, Kenya, August 5- World record holder, David Rudisha set the British all comers and Aviva London Grand Prix meet records when he topped perennial rival, Abubaker Kaki of Sudan with a 1:42.92 victory on Friday night.

After Sammy Tangui, his trusted pacemaker went through 400m in 49.6, Rudisha, who was slightly behind the rabbit and a stride ahead of the two-time World Indoor champion begun eating up the tartan in Crystal Palace.

Kaki, the only runner capable of getting remotely close to the twice African and Continental Cup titleholder at the moment engaged the chase and with 200m to go, Rudisha clanked it up and cut loose.

Despite the best efforts of Kaki, in the homestretch to pull off the world record holder’s shoulder and overtake on the outside in the straight, the powerful strides of the Kenyan prevailed as compatriot and training partner, Boaz Lalang came through for third.

It was Rudisha’s third win on the trot against Kaki who before London, held a 5-3 head to head advantage over the Kenyan as the shift of power in men 800m running was once again demonstrated.

It was their first clash this season and it laid the perfect marker of what to expect at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea where the pair are expected to light up the two-lap race.
