NAIROBI, Kenya, March 10- Kenyan sport is set for a new chapter when the cabinet approved the Sports Bill 2010 on Thursday paving way for the development of the Sports Development Authority.
The authority which will operate autonomously under a board of directors will have the responsibility of regulating sports organizations and support the development of sports by creating a trust fund through a national sports lottery, establishing a Kenya Sports Institute and incorporating the Sports Stadia Management Board.
Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Paul Otuoma who is keen on seeing the Bill passed will have to present the document before Parliament after it reconvenes on March 17.
The Bill which was first drafted in 2002 is seen as the template for addressing several key issues affecting local sport including funding, grassroots development and coaching.
