Mavericks waltz over Knicks

NEW YORK, February 3- Dirk Nowitzki scored 29 points and the German star forward grabbed 11 rebounds to spark the Dallas Mavericks past the New York Knicks 113-97 on Wednesday, stretching their win streak to six games.

Jose Barea contributed 22 points while Tyson Chandler added 15 points and 11 rebounds for Dallas, which began the second half with a 26-6 run on the way to their 16th victory in their past 18 meetings with New York.

The Knicks, who missed 11-of-14 shots to start the third quarter, were led by Italian playmaker Danilo Gallinari’s 27 points and 21 from Amare Stoudemire. Reserve Toney Douglas added 22 points.

Dallas led 86-73 entering the fourth quarter and Nowitzki and Jason Terry hit the first baskets of the period. The Knicks never trimmed their deficit within single digits after that.

The Mavericks improved to 33-15, one victory shy of the reigning NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers for second overall in the Western Conference.

New York fell to 25-23, 12 games behind Boston in second place in the Atlantic division and sixth overall in the Eastern Conference.
