Emirates unveil golf package

Nairobi, Kenya, January 26-Emirates Airline has teamed up with seven Dubai hotels to offer four-night packages during the 22nd annual Dubai Desert Classic golf tournament which kicks off on 8th February and runs through 13th February 2011 at the Emirates Golf Club, Majlis course.

Unveiling the packages, Emirates Airline Regional Manager for East Africa Essa Sulaiman Ahmad said the offers are available to Emirates passengers booking flights to or from Dubai.

"The 2011 Dubai Desert Classic has attracted some of the world’s most phenomenal golfers.  It would be a lifetime opportunity to see Lee Westwood, Tiger Woods and Miguel Angel Jimenez, the world’s top golfers, play in the same tournament. To give Kenyan Golf fans a chance to watch this fantastic tournament Emirates  Airline is offering special package starting at US$102 per person, per night, based on double occupancy and a four-night stay," said Mr. Ahmad.

“The package will include accommodations for four-nights, airport assistance on arrival at Dubai International Airport, Arabian Adventures welcome pack, airport transfers to/from the hotel by private car, breakfast daily, Desert Classic Season Pass (admission to Dubai Desert Classic on all days including the Pro-Am on 9th February), and all taxes and service charges,”  he added.

The world’s number one Lee Westwood and world’s number three Tiger Woods will be facing off at the 22nd annual Dubai Desert Classic golf tournament. Evergreen Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez will also be seeking to become the first back-to-back winner of the USD$2.5 million prize fund tournament.

Emirates’ Omega Dubai Classic special offer complement another offer the airline unveiled a few weeks ago to Kenyan traders and leisure travelers planning to attend the 2011 Dubai Shopping Festival, which began on January 20th and ends on February 20th.

“At Emirates, we always strive to give more value to our customers. This is a great offer which provides Kenyan golf lovers wider options in terms of sports, leisure, and business. Business and golf go together and those who will be attending the Omega Dubai Desert Classic also have a chance to attend the Dubai Shopping Festival for some serious bargains,” Mr. Ahmad said.

Mr. Ahmad noted that all Emirates passengers, regardless of airfare or class of travel, will be able to purchase the packages in advance of arrival in Dubai. He added that
“Passengers can be booked on either the inbound or outbound sectors to Dubai (or both).  The packages can be purchased through travel agents and Emirates offices,” he added.

The Dubai Desert Classic has been part of the European Tour since its inception in 1989.  Last year, Jimenez defeated Westwood, now the world’s number one player, at third extra hole to clinch the 2010 Omega Dubai Desert Classic after the pair topped the leaderboard at 11 under par.

Since the inception of the tournament, no player has won the title twice in a row though South Africa’s Ernie Els (1994, 2002 and 2005) and Woods (2006 and 2008) have inscribed their names on the glittering trophy more than once.
