Stars beat Sudan

NAIROBI, Kenya, January 5- Collins Okoth scored a penalty to secure a 1-0 win for Harambee Stars over Sudan in their first Nile Basin Tournament match in Cairo on Wednesday.Gor Mahia striker Kevin Omondi was brought down in the Sudan box in the 17th minute for Okoth to convert the spot kit and secure Stars first win in five months.

The national side has endured one of their worst runs on the international stage. They failed to win a single match at last month’s Tusker CECAFA Cup and are currently languishing at the bottom of Group J of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The win will no doubt boost the morale of the team which has been shorn of several elite players including seven Sofapaka players who were pulled out due to club commitments

Interim coach Zedekiah Otieno will now focus on beating the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) who they meet on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Francis Ochieng had a busy day in the office as he made several saves from a rampant Sudan attack.
