Kenya thumped by New Zealand

NAIROBI, Kenya, December 10- Kenya were thrashed by New Zealand 47-0 in their opening match of the International Rugby Board (IRB) George Sevens on Friday. The rampant Kiwis capitalized on Kenyan mistakes to cross over for seven tries.

Last week’s tribulations in Dubai came back to haunt Benjamin Ayimba’s side at Outeniqua Park Stadium.

Turnovers at the contact area and non existent defence was the order of the 14 minutes that Kenya will want to forget in a hurry before their next game against England 5.33 pm Kenya time.

Tries from Tim Mikkelson, captain DJ Forbes, Tomasi Cama and Frank Halai gave the kiwis a comfortable 26-0 cushion at half time.

Mikkelson started to turn the knife further at the restart with another try before Scott Curry and Bryce Heem ran through more flimsy Kenyan defence to compound their miserable opponents.

Kenya’s final Pool C match is against Russia who lost 19-5 to England.
