Kenya slammed in Dubai

NAIROBI, Kenya, December 3- Kenya was bundled out of the main cup competition at the IRB Dubai Sevens after they were thrashed by Samoa 26-7 on Friday.Last season’s IRB Sevens player of the year Mikaele Pesamino crossed for a hat trick at The Sevens Stadium as Ben Nyambu touched down for a consolation try in the dying minutes.

On a day that saw Kenya borrowed Zimbabwe’s kit after theirs got lost in transit, Benjamin Ayimba’s side beat Arabian Gulf 31-19 in their first Pool A match but lost at the death 17-12 to an enterprising Wales.

The Safaricom Sevens champions will also be sweating over the fitness of flyhalf Peter Ocholla who limped off in the second period.

Kenya’s performance against Samoa summed up their day 1 performance-flimsy defence, lack of support for the ball carrier, poor decision making and handling errors.

The defending series champions were 19-0 up at half time with two tries from Pesamino and Taulagi Agumasaga.

Pesamino killed off Benjamin Ayimba’s side with try after the interval as injuries began to take their toll on both sides.

Kenya will face Argentina in the quarter final of the bowl competition at 8.20 am Kenya time.
