NAIROBI, Kenya, November 16- President Mwai Kibaki has congratulated Ulinzi Stars for winning the Kenya Premier League title over the weekend.
The President noted that Ulinzi’s decisive 2-0 victory over Karuturi Stars, an equally strong team, was a culmination of many sessions of dedicated practice, hardwork and an admirable spirit of teamwork.
President Kibaki said the display of quality and entertaining soccer during the match was impressive and proves that with determination and sufficient support, the standards of football in the country can be propelled to higher levels.
The Head of State expressed satisfaction that a huge number of Kenyans turned out to watch the match, giving the players the much needed morale and support.
President Kibaki pointed out that the immense patriotism witnessed in the stadium as football fans from all corners of the country cheered on the players, proves that soccer can be used as a vehicle to unite the country.
“I also have no doubt in my mind that such quality football as displayed by Ulinzi Stars will attract even more fans and boost the love for the game in the country,” President Kibaki said.
The President said it was commendable that besides their core duties to the nation, members of Ulinzi Stars also participated and served as the country’s sports ambassadors, noting that they have been winners in previous soccer championships, notably in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
