NAIROBI, Kenya, September 13- The team of Charles Mwaniki, Amos Kariuki, Ben Mathu and Harrison Hiuhu won the 12th Dasani Golf Gala held at the Nyeri Club. With a team aggregate score of 106 stable ford points, the team booked the only team slot into the gala finale and an opportunity to compete for the overall prize, a fully paid trip to the Gary Player Invitation Championship to be held at the Fancourt Golf Resort, George, South Africa, in November.
Handicap-17 Hiuhu led the winning team with a score of 37 points, Kariuki contributed 35 points whilst both Mwaniki and Mathu recorded 34 points.
Speaking at the prize giving ceremony, Mwaniki, a former chairman of the club, said they were elated to have won.
“We didn’t have much time to practice together as a team, but we all managed to play well, score averagely and win,” Mwaniki said.
“I would like to thank Mt. Kenya Bottlers and Dasani for organizing this fabulous championship and for giving us the opportunity to travel to South Africa and to play in the Gary Player Invitational.”
Speaking at the same event, Joyce Macharia, the Mt. Kenya Bottlers CEO said she was glad that golfers from Nanyuki and Nyahururu had accepted the invitation to travel to Nyeri and to participate in the event.
“As sponsors we are always glad to see huge turn outs and see such enthusiastic yet friendly competition,” Macharia said.
“I also had the opportunity to receive some golf lessons at the Dasani Cool Zone and I encourage other non-golfers to take advantage of the golf lessons offered by Dasani at each event.”
With the team slot taken the consolation prizes went to Arthur Kamau who score a huge 40 points, Vinesh Shah on 39 points and Stellah Mwangi on 38 points. Karen’s Jimmy Kimondo was the guest winner with the best score of the day, a large 43 points whilst George Ndegwa was the guest runner up with 33 points.
The Dasani Golf Gala now moves to the Thika Sports Club where members of Makuyu, Ruiru and hosts Thika will battle for two team slots into the Dasani Golf Gala.
From Thika, the Gala will move to the Limuru County Club and then to the Coast before returning to Nairobi and to the Vet Lab Sports Club and finally the Muthaiga Golf Club.
