Algeria not intimidated

CAPE TOWN, June 18 – Algerian coach Rabah Saadane admits England are a fine team but says his players have no complexes and vowed to give them a hard time when they meet in their crucial World Cup match here on Friday.Like star-studded England, Algeria desperately need to win after losing to Slovenia in their Group C opener and Saadane knows they have their work cut out.

"We know that England have fine strikers and a fine team," he said.

"They have a great team and scored lots of goal in qualifying. We have been forewarned and hope we can play a good match against them.

"I have a lot of respect for Mr. Capello and the England team," he added, referring to England coach Fabio Capello in his pre-game press conference Thursday.

"We are looking forward to the match.

"We have seen how they play and we have no complexes. We’ll play as well technically and tactically and psychologically as we can.

"It is very important for both teams and I think we’ll see an excellent match. I believe it will be a fine spectacle."

Algeria’s main doubt is goalkeeper Faouzi Chaouchi, whose mistake saw Slovenia claim a 1-0 win in their opening match.

Chaouchi sprained his left knee in a training session Tuesday and Saadane said he had yet to decide whether he would play.

Asked what the reaction would be in Algeria if his team wins on Friday, Saadane laughed and said: "I can hardly imagine.

"But we’re not there yet. We have to play the match and win. In football though, anything is possible. Regardless of the opponent, I trust my team and hope we have more luck than we did against Slovenia."
