Sliders get boost

NAIROBI, Kenya, June 9- Sliders Hockey has received Sh165,000 from Simba Colt Motors ahead of the forthcoming East Africa Cup of Clubs Hockey Championship tournament in Tanzania.Slider Hockey Club chairperson Vivien Akinyi while extending her gratitude for the corporate support further confirmed that the team will be setting out for Arusha with an express goal to clinch the tournament title in August.

“With the kind of support that we have received from Simba Colt Motors and the Fuso brand, Kenyans can rest assured that we shall be going out to Arusha to claim the gold medals and nothing less,” Akinyi said.

Last year, Sliders Hockey team managed to clinch the silver medal and received the honours trophy for the best player during the tournament held at the City Park Hockey Stadium in Nairobi.

Akinyi was accompanied by team members Tina Agunda, Flavian Amuhaya, Liz Awour and Edna Eshikhunyi.

Simba Colt Motors CEO Adil Popat confirmed that alongside the financial incentive, the firm would continue extending its support for upcoming sporting teams as part of a strategic sports and talent development programme recently initiated by the firm.

“Simba Colt Motors is a truly indigenous Kenyan company and we shall continue to support teams such as Sliders Hockey team as part of our corporate commitment to raise the bar on specific sporting disciplines,” Popat said.

The company confirmed that they will be underwriting the tournament fees to facilitate Sliders Hockey team entry alongside other material support.
