NAIROBI, Kenya, January 30 – Harambee Stars midfielder MacDonald Mariga flew back to Italy on Saturday after undergoing a medical at Manchester City.The world’s richest club is reported to have offered Italian club Parma Sh850 million for the defensive midfielder as they seek to strengthen their midfield reserves for the season run in.
City’s midfield corps currently includes newly signed world cup winner Patrick Vieira, England duo Shaun Wright-Phillips and Gareth Barry, Stephen Ireland and Nigel de Jong.
The former Ulinzi and Tusker ace has been on the radar of other top European clubs including both Milan giants as well as English Premiership side Portsmouth.
City coach Roberto Mancini is keen to secure Mariga’s services in exchange for striker Valeri Bojinov who is currently on loan at Parma.
Mariga last match for Harambee Stars was the 2-0 victory in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mozambique last September.
He missed out on the qualifier against Nigeria’s Super Eagles due to injury.
