Vidic going nowhere

MANCHESTER, Nov 27 – Serbia captain Nemanja Vidic has dismissed speculation that he wants to leave Manchester United by claiming that he would like to help the transition to a new generation of players at Old Trafford.NEMANJA_VIDICThe centreback’s situation is reportedly being monitored by Barcelona following reports that his wife, Ana, is unhappy in northwestern England, and the attribution to the player of some unflattering comments about the weather and life in general in England.

But Vidic, 28, insists he is happy at the Premier League champions and looking forward to the day when, following the retirement of veterans like Ryan Giggs and Edwin van der Sar, he is one of the senior figures in the dressing room.

"I am glad to have been part of this club for so many years and if I could be one of the bases on which a new team is built I would be very happy," Vidic said.

"I have never said I want to go and play in another country. Other people have spoken or written about it and I am not happy with that.

"But I have said in the past what I think. I don’t want to keep talking about it because I can’t stop what people say. The fact is I am happy here."

Vidic is under contract with United until 2012 but says there is no rush for negotiations on a new, extended deal.

"I will speak about it to the club," he said.

"But I don’t want to push them. I don’t want to push anyone. We will see what happens. I am here and I am happy. I have shown in the games that I want to be part of the team and to play every game 100 percent for this club."
