MEMPHIS, November 20 – Former league MVP and 10-time all-star Allen Iverson is free to sign a contract with any National Basketball Association club after clearing waivers on Thursday.Iverson becomes an unrestricted free agent after a falling out with the Memphis Grizzlies.
Memphis waived him through the league after only three games this season and no team claimed the 34-year-old guard during the 48-hour period, allowing him to become a free agent.
Iverson’s departure from the Grizzlies is believed to be a mutual agreement. He was upset with not being a starter with the Detroit Pistons last season and now this season with Memphis.
Memphis had signed the four-time NBA scoring champion to a one-year contract at the beginning of the season and he missed the first three games with a hamstring injury.
Iverson averaged 12.3 points and 3.7 assists in his three games, playing just over 22 minutes a game.
The New York Knicks have expressed an interest in signing Iverson.
