NAIROBI, June 3 – Beijing 10,000 metre bronze medallist Micah Kogo and Linet Masai, the 19-year-old who upset women's 5000m and 10000m Olympic champion Tirunesh Dibaba of Ethiopia in New York last weekend, head Kenya's qualifying squad for August's world athletics championships.Kenya have simplified qualification for this year’s 10,000m in Berlin so as to avoid athletes having to compete in two sets of trials.
This time around men and women qualifiers have a one off chance to make it to Berlin at the national championships in Nairobi on June 25-27.
"Because of the long duration of the event, the athletes have to be selected early to prepare for Berlin. They don’t have to run in the trials," said AK chairman Isaiah Kiplagat at a news conference.
The World Championships take place in Berlin from 15-23 August.
