LONDON, May 8 – France defender Gael Clichy will not play for Arsenal again this season, the club confirmed on Thursday.Clichy suffered a back injury in a Champions League quarter-final first leg at Villarreal on April 7 and has not played since.
"It is finished for Gael," Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said. "We would have put a little pressure on the recovery period had we gone to the Champions League final. But now we will not take a gamble."
Arsenal have no chance of silverware this season but are still battling to catch Chelsea and finish third in the Premier League, which would ensure direct qualification for the group stage of the Champions League. Chelsea visit the Emirates on Sunday.
