Kenyan teams for Hima 10s

NAIROBI, November 1 – Five Kenyan teams will take part in the annual Hima 10-a-side rugby tournament to be held on November 3 and 4 at Kampala’s Kyadondo ground Uganda.

According to the draw released by tournament director Herbert Wafula, Mean Machine, Strathmore University, Nakuru RFC and Mwamba have been included in the two-day tournament.

Nondescripts will also take part in the rugby tournament and will be handled by national seven-a-side coach Benjamin Ayimba.

Nondies are in Pool C with last year’s winners UTL Kobs, Strathmore University and Buffaloes.

Last year’s finalists Kenya Harlequin FC and Kenya Commercial Bank surprisingly pulled out.

Mwamba, winners of the Kenya Rugby Football Union National Sevens Circuit a fortnight ago are seeded fifth and have been drawn in Pool D witLAVIN_ASEGO_653636728.jpgh MTN Heathens, Entebbe Mongers and Cente Rhinos.

Sixth-seeded Strathmore are in Pool C with Kobs, Buffaloes and Nondies while Nakuru who are seeded seventh will battle it out with Pirates, Impis II and Bruins in Pool B. Mean Machine are in Pool A with the tournament’s top seeds Hima Impis, Boks and Rwanda’s Silverbacks.

Two top teams from each pool shall proceed to the main cup quarter finals with the bottom two teams dropping to the Bowl of this 14th edition of the tournament which has been sponsored by Hima Cement.

The tournament was started in 1993 as Makerere University 10’s with Hima coming on Board in 2001. Last year, UTL Kobs defeated Quins 24-5 in the final. MTN Heathens took the Plate by beating Hima Impis 19-0. Impis II beat Bruins 20-5 in the Bowl final and Rhinos overcame Saracens 32-0 in the Shield final.
