Kenya TV host seeks treatment

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 23 - The family of former TV news anchor Esther Arunga who has dominated news headlines since last week has finally managed to separate her from the controversial Finger of God church, at least for now.
Family sources told Capital News that they are “helping Esther get professional counselling to ensure she recovers from the whole episode.”
Ms Arunga who was arrested on Saturday morning alongside Finger of God Church leader Joseph Hellon, Quincy Timberlake and five of their members was released early Monday before the rest were arraigned in court.
Mr Hellon, Mr Timberlake and the five others denied charges of being members of an illegal society and were freed on a bond of Sh20,000 each apart from Mr Timberlake.
The court was urged not to grant Mr Timberlake bail because he had absconded court in another criminal case which was pending before a Makadara court.
On Tuesday, a family member told Capital News that Ms Arunga was “at home and is doing quite fine.” “She is undergoing counselling sessions and will be okay, she has no problem at all,” the family source said.
Another family member told Capital News that they had resorted “not to allow her back to that church because that is where all these problems started.”
Ms Arunga who recently announced she had resigned from KTN as a news anchor to join the now infamous Finger of God Church has dominated local news with bloggers debating if the church she joined was a cult.
Police have indicated that they would use her as the prosecution witness to testify against Hellon, Quincy and the rest of the church members who appeared in court on Monday and Tuesday.
Police raided Mr Hellon's house in Gigiri at 2am on Sunday and arrested the two and other followers of the controversial Finger of God ministry based in Nairobi's Runda estate.
The suspects were locked up in various police stations in Nairobi. Ms Arunga who spent Sunday night at Muthaiga police station was released on Monday morning on a police bond.

| KENYANS WAKE UP!! This gal is not crazy. She's telling the truth about what is going on in Kenya behind the scenes. Are u part of the freemasons/govt campaign to smear her name?? The forces of evil will not prevail. I support her n Hellon. If ur not seeing this ur not smart. N u dare complain about our govt?!! She's not as naive as people are saying. The church is not a cult. i watched her interview n u need to be smart to appreciate what she was saying. If ur a freemason out there...ur time is running out. We both know u will NEVER succeed against the power of God!! There's nothing they've done that is contrary to the bible. Their is support out here for them. Be very scared!! |

| Frankly, I only heard about Esther last week and wonder why all media outlets should give her so much publicity?! At best, knowing the way media can set the agenda, I think it is perfectly planned to give her coverage so that her early campaigns are not costed as adverts. But she said "my campaigns will be paid for by the working Kenyan..." Maybe she could borrow a lesson learned by one KJ that screen acceptance isn't directly proportional to your votes in the ballot box. It is true she is a lawyer. But I got to know this afer her interview on the bench with K24 where she alleged serious crimes by seriously high-power guys known to her. A lawyer, alleging on camera such - she cannot be oblivious of the implications! Conclusion, police, follow her up. As a state witness, she can testify on "the many car logbooks and car number plates" and some people will hang for carjackings. I believe she hasn't told us all she knows and has done. But still, it is said she is not guilty and is a victim of .... I think I can buy this: so, family, please support her (cos your are the right support system) and ensure she completes her therapy. she is crying for help, let's not say she is mature to choose what she wants. Any psycho-social expert will tell you that such experiences do leave trauma. But she is not yet CBR (Case Beyond Rehab). |

| Esther, Quicy and Hellon are all in this together. They are all over 18. All should be prosecuted; or all should be released. Do you want to say the underage girls were more guilty than Esther? These girls should be released and Esther sent to Jail!!!!!!! |

| Been following the Esther Arunga saga...the condemnations ...the shock...and even in some instances the anger directed at her. What i think and believe is that Esther is just a restless soul who is on a journey of self discovery. Eventually she will find herself and once she does so she'll settle down. Folks should just let her be!

| Good news. Esther is a bright and hardworking gal and we wish her all the very best in life. May the work of God and His mercies be upon her now and forever. My advice to her though: You are young, bright with a bright future, just follow your heart but discuss always with your parents, siblings and friends and seek your parents’ blessings and the sky will be the limit for you. |

| Ms Arunga is an adult for heaven's sake.she knows what is right and wrong.she didn't join the church yesterday, she moved into Hellon's house last year. It has never been an issue all this time so what has happened? does it mean that we are so idle and lack important matters to discuss? my opinion stands that she is of sound mind, knows what is right and she has not committed any crime.may this matter be laid to rest. |

| thank God all is turning out well, i still believe that the height of all her torments came about because of her losing her love. listening to her i could only see bitterness of that lose, hence she should now go back and reclaim Wilson, after all, as he says he is still waiting for her.on the other hand, now that she also revealed her lifelong ambitions, she herself should run for the big seat and avoid those other clowns alone , am sure she will win! |

| 1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Ephesians 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cu...nning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.
Math15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Math16:12 Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees Luke 4:32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power. The doctrine of Jesus is the ONLY true doctrine.
Esther will recover and it is my prayer that she will rise up again.

| Lets look at the brighter side; God has just used Arunga to save 600 plus people who had joined this cult or were planning to. Many guys had quit this sect but they didn't deter others from joining it because they didn't make headlines. To me, i thank Arunga but am sorry for her. She should be proud of herself. This sect would have eaten up so many young souls. |

| Ms. Arunga is Not any special to be released hour before the other members of the church considering that she was a senior church member and Vice president Candidate.
I think the police were selective in granting her bail and Not the others. She should also be charged just like other members of Figure of God and if anything she was a senior member. This would be a lesson to other gals and if anything Nobody had put a gun on her head to join that church and she is 30 years old and of Sound mind (a lawyer by profession) |
