Police ‘can’t find’ Philip Moi

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 28 – Police have failed to locate former President Daniel Moi’s son Philip yet again, following a warrant of arrest issued on Wednesday.

The officers from Muthaiga police station spent the better part of Thursday morning at Philip’s house in Muthaiga but they did not find him.

“We have not been able to find him, my officers have been at the home but he was not there,” Starehe divisional police Chief Aphoid Nyagah said.

He said the officers were out to enforce a warrant issued Wednesday in a dispute with Philip’s estranged wife Rossana Pluda who is seeking maintenance fees.

“We have the warrant with us and it is our responsibility to enforce it,” Nyagah added.
A guard at the home did not allow journalists into the home.

The warrant was reinstated by Justice G.B.M. Kariuki who had in February issued it after Philip failed to pay his estranged wife in excess of Sh7 million he owes in child support and maintenance.

While reinstating the order, the Judge said Philip had fraudulently obtained the orders lifting the arrest warrant.

The judge said Philip had lied to the vacation judge in April when he claimed he had paid Pluda the child support she is seeking, only to learn that he had actually accumulated Sh7 million in arrears.

Philip had been ordered earlier in May 2010 to pay Pluda monthly maintenance fees of Sh250, 000.
The amount has accumulated since then.

Philip has previously argued that he is unable to pay the amount Pluda is seeking. He has also filed a bankruptcy proceedings in the High Court seeking to be declared bankrupt.
