Israel to fly out first S.Sudan deportees on Sunday

JERUSALEM, Jun 13 – Israel is to fly a first planeload of South Sudanese deportees home on Sunday with more expected to follow later in the week, a spokeswoman for the Population and Migration Authority said.

“We have about 150 so far (for Sunday’s flight),” Sabine Hadad told AFP on Wednesday. “We want more planes (to go) during the week.”

On Tuesday, the authorities arrested 100 illegal immigrants, while another 300 people agreed to be repatriated voluntarily, she said, without saying which countries they were from.

She had no updated figures for Wednesday morning’s raids.

Since the current wave of arrests began at dawn on Sunday, 240 people have been detained for deportation, most of them South Sudanese.

Official figures show there are 60,000 Africans living in Israel illegally, most of them in run-down neighbourhoods of south Tel Aviv.

Until last week, the estimated 1,500 South Sudanese living in Israel were protected from deportation by a policy which afforded them “temporary protection.”

But last Thursday, a Jerusalem court overturned that long-standing policy, ruling that they were no longer at risk in their homeland and clearing the way for their mass expulsion.

Israeli daily Haaretz said on Wednesday that a delegation of South Sudanese immigration officials was expected in Israel this week to coordinate repatriation of their citizens.

Rising tensions over the growing number of illegal immigrants in Israel exploded into violence last month when a protest in south Tel Aviv turned nasty, with demonstrators smashing African-run shops and property, chanting “Blacks out!”

Israel, which reportedly backed South Sudan through its 1983-2005 war with Khartoum, recognised the new nation and established full diplomatic relations with its government shortly after it declared independence in July last year.

The Jewish state does not have relations with Sudan, which it has accused of serving as a base for Islamic militants.

I wonder what the Americans and the Western world in general would say if Kenya did the same to illegal immigrants in the country whose numbers dwarfs those in Israel. Personally i dont agree with Israel’s actions.

Its rather obvious Israel are treating the illegal immigrants discriminatorally. Mostly cause they are not jews to begin with and secondly the color of their skin too. They dont realise Kenya has over 600000 somali refugees and over 100000 IDPs so they should understand their generocity was but a false hand of kindness for the global community to believe they care about others. False generocity always shows its real face when violence breaks out and the nation does nothing to protect those being violated.

I fully support Israel, Illegal immigrants should be sent back to origin. That Kenya has millions of Somali refugees/illegal aliens is none of Tel Aviv’s business. They decide how to run their country. We accepted vermin in the name of refugee camps humanitarian blah blah blah..look where it got us? Bombings upon bombings, cartels, money laundering and war to boot. Everybody goes back to their homes. Southern Sudanese have no reason to be refugees anywhere just like some Kenyans living in squalor abroad yet too ashamed and arrogant to go back.

Every sovereign state has the right to choose who lives or resides within their borders. The reason Israel allowed this was on humanitarian grounds for the South Sudanese who did not have a state and were under constant human rights abuse they were not illegal they were given temporary refugee status. They became illegal after a court decision to change the South Sudanese status.

Also Kenya is a signatory to several global and united nations charters on status of refugees and displaced persons. This is why its not a matter of just kicking the Somalis out unless they commit crimes and put national security in jeopardy. So to be so simplistic Ngoma without checking your facts does not solve anything. The laws of Kenya are supreme and a court of law after a request from the GOK, would have to decide on mass deportation, not an individual

Also your delusion to Kenyans living in squalor abroad is but an assumption since you apparently speak from experience ? One is at liberty to live anywhere on this planet where the law accepts one to be resident. It has nothing to do with arrogance nor shame. Will you provide the many Kenyans you refer to with jobs, housing etc if they return ? Had the GOK put in place certain policy and adhered to it, you would not have many Kenyans as expatriates. Its time to see with an open mind the reality Kenya is in.

I repeat nobody forces Kenya to stick to these rules about refugees and don’t give me signatory to this and that UN charter charade. Israel and many other countries are party to it but you can say no if the refugees are criminals indeed or putting a strain on your resources which is a clear case in Kenya and the millions of Somalis. Ethiopia flatly refused them yet they house the AU HQ! Pity Kenya is stupidly arm twisted to accept the vermin under the guise of ‘we shall give you more aid’ well see where it got you. Insecurity and a war to boot.
As for Kenya exporting labour yes I have experience and I shudder when Kenyans boast of diasporans most living without papers, doing every menial job on earth, sharing crappy homes, exploited, some selling their flesh and miserable. Even when you export mangoes you do not export the rotten ones! I am proud of some Kenyans living abroad and contributing to society but a good proportion would be better of in their village with their dignity.

Intl treaties and charters is exactly what stop Kenya from expelling the refugees in camps within our borders. When we signed these which are also regulated in Kenyas laws we also agreed not to mistreat or harm any refugees who seek a safe haven from suffering or other plight in their countries of origin. Also fyi Israel is not a signatory to The United Nations Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees (CRSR) which is an international convention that defines who is a refugee, and sets out the rights of individuals who are granted asylum and the responsibilities of nations that grant asylum. The Convention also sets out which people do not qualify as refugees, such as war criminals. Its only when the refugees committ crimes that their status may be reconsidered. The charter also does not allow the closing of ones borders to inflowing refugees unless it is a health or national security risk at stake. Also Ethiopia did not refuse them entry they have small pockets of refugees in the Ogaden areas and also as because the areas bordering Ethiopia/Somalia are closed as they are officially at war since before the collapse of the Somali state which no longer exists. Yes its a shame they do this when they house the AU which is but a puppet pseudo UN organisation. Its basically powerless just a shell of echoing voices. Even during a war the convention does not allow denying entry of refugees.
The plight of the many Kenyans who suffer in being illegal aliens or in jobs that they would never take has to do with survival. Nobody forces them its their own choice and also sadly many have no other choices even if they went back home. This is why i brought this issue of whether the govt would provide them with jobs or other amenities instead of raising MPs salaries for example. There are always rotten eggs in every society and one cannot generalise unless one has evidence of this. You forget those menial jobs provide our govt with much needed foreign currency every month. Which pays for fuel and other imports if your not aware of this ? The govt is dependent on this diaspora lifeline. Not the other way around. Many times the govt does not step in to help its citizens in distress. There are many stories on the net about this. Also there are many who are doing very well.

It is amazing that a people that have been discriminated upon in the past because of their ‘tribe’ are now the perpetrators of racist discrimination of other people. Human beings never learn.
