Visitors admire artwork by Chinese calligraphers during the "Man and Nature" Calligraphy Exhibition, at the UNEP headquarters in Nairobi/XINHUA
Wang Min, China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, said calligraphy is a profound and elegant art form with a long history at the opening ceremony of the 2012 UN Chinese Calligraphy Exhibition held at the UN headquarters. There are about 60 calligraphyworks on display there.
Wang said as an essential part of traditional Chinese culture, calligraphy has served as an important means of cultural exchanges between China and other parts of the world since the Tang Dynasty.
“The theme of this exhibition, Culture for Harmony, is of great realistic significance,” he said. “Chinese calligraphy, incorporating diverse calligraphic forms and styles, conforms to the UN’s advocacy of harmonious coexistence of different cultures.”
“I believe this exhibition will play an important role in promoting friendly exchanges between China and other countries, as well as strengthening people’s understanding of Chinese culture,” Wang said.
