Chiloba back in favour; to steer operations of repeat presidential poll

The Commission at the end of Monday’s retreat/MOSES MUOKI

NAKURU, Kenya, Sep 11 – It was resolved at a meeting of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission that Chief Executive Ezra Chiloba will take charge of the operationalisation of the October 17 repeat presidential poll.

Following a day-long retreat, Commission Chairperson Wafula Chebukati on Monday evening said Chiloba would prepare an operational plan off of the lessons learnt in the last election.

“We have agreed to review and streamline the operationalisation of the project team for purposes of efficient and effective delivery of the fresh presidential election. The CEO has been tasked to assess the implementation challenges that were experienced during the just concluded General Election and propose a project implementation framework that is aligned with the existing organisational structure.”

It was also agreed that Chiloba would align the project team unveiled by Chebukati to manage the poll, within the organisational structure.

The ruling party led by Deputy President William Ruto had expressed reservations with regard to the project team and the resolution was the result of a fence mending meeting held by the Commission in Naivasha Monday.
