Members of National Assembly, MCAs gazetted

NAIROBI, Kenya Aug 23 – The Independent and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has published the list of 288 elected Members of the National Assembly and 1,450 Members of County Assembly.

The 288 MPs excludes MPs excludes Kitutu Chache where no election was held after the death of the Jubilee candidate and Kikuyu where Kimani Ichung’wah was unopposed.

Ichung’wah was gazetted an MP last Friday alongside Governors, Senators and Women Representatives.

The Constitution provides that whenever a new House is elected, the President, by notice in the Kenya Gazette, shall appoint the place and date for the first sitting, which shall not be later than 30 days after the gazettement.

The gazettement and expected first sitting of the 12th Parliament comes even as women lobby groups moved to the High Court seeking to bar MPs from being sworn-in as unconstitutional.

According to the Gazette Notice; Jubilee Party has 140 MPs, followed by ODM with 61 MPs, Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC) has 14 MPs; then Wiper Party with 19 MPs while Ford-K has 10 MPs. KANU has 8 MPs

Another 13 MPs made it to the House as Independents.

Economic Freedom Party (EFP) got 4 MPs, Kenya Patriots Party (KPP) has 3 MPs while Isaac Ruto’s Chama cha Mashinani, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got 2 MPs.

The Democratic Party (DP), Party of National Unity (PNU), Maendeleo Chap Chap Party (MCCP), Muungano, National Agenda Party of Kenya (NAPK), Frontier Alliance Party (FAP), New Democrats (ND), and Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) each have one legislator respectively.
