Governor Mutua sends all finance staff on leave pending audit

MACHAKOS, Kenya, Aug 18 – Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua have suspended all finance officers in the county.

This affects 437 staff from the County Treasury headquarters as well as those seconded in other departments all over the county.

In what he described as a radical surgery on financial operations, Mutua directed all financial officers including procurement, accountants, auditors and directors to proceed on immediate leave until further notice.

“They are not allowed to access government premises until they are recalled” said Mutua.

He said the move was meant to allow a thorough independent audit and suitability assessment of staff and financial systems and operations of Machakos County.

“The objective is to ensure that going forward wananchi get value for money that has been entrusted on us, said Mutua.

Speaking at the County Headquarters, Mutua said there was need to improve efficiency, rout out cartels and enhance accountability and integrity in all levels of his government.

He added this was is part of a comprehensive radical surgery informed by his interactions with the public during the just concluded campaigns.

Mutua said he will be announcing more changes in the next few days and promised the people of Machakos and the various stakeholders that they will receive government services in a transparent and efficient manner.
