In June, at least eight people died after a passenger boat capsized in the Indian Ocean, off Lamu Island.

Police said three children were among the dead.

The boat was sailing from Lamu Island to Lamu East when it was swept away by strong current.

Police say the ocean has recently witnessed heavy storms and tides, forcing them to suspend fishing activities.
