NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 4 – Some 200 lawyers have been earmarked for deployment across all the 47 counties to observe the upcoming General Election slated for next Tuesday.

The Law Society of Kenya President, Isaac Okero said the lawyers will join the long list of local and foreign observers monitoring how the polls will be conducted and table a report afterwards.

“The Law Society of Kenya is prepared. We have over 200 lawyers spread out across all our eight branches. We are going to observe the entire election process and table a report later,” said Okero.

Speaking after a closed-door briefing with the head of the African Union Election Observers Mission to Kenya, Thabo Mbeki, Okero said the society has put sufficient measures to facilitate a smooth observation process by the lawyers.

“We are in the process of setting up a portal through which the lawyers will be able to transmit the reports directly to the LSK secretariat, we expect that they will be able to make observations in the different polling stations across the country,” said Okero.
