MOMBASA, Kenya, Jul 27 – The Principal of St Augustine’s Preparatory School in Mombasa is among five people charged with the murder of six-year-old boy who was crushed to death by the school bus.

She was charged alongside the bus driver, school bursar, a mechanic and a conductor as recommended by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

They however pleaded not guilty to the charges and High Court judge Dora Chepkwony directed that they be released on a Sh1 million bond.

The judge ruled that the Director of Public Prosecutions has the mandate to proffer charges against the accused.

“Defence will be liberty to challenge the charges at later stage. So I hereby direct the accused to take plea as required by law.” she said.

She further ordered that the five undergo psychiatric assessment and the hearing has now been set for August 21.

She directed them to also report to the County Commander’s office every Monday until the full trial and determination of the case.

The six year old boy was ran over by the back wheels of the bus when he fell down through an opening on the floor of the vehicle.
