KAKAMEGA, Kenya, Jun 23 – A tussle over campaign posters of two Members of County Assembly aspirants on Thursday night left a man in Ikolomani, Kakamega County with serious injuries after his right hand was cut off by his son.

Chrisantus Mwinamo is said to have confronted his father – Protus Mugaisi – after returning home drunk half an hour past seven o’clock in the evening when the two engaged in a hotly contested argument over the posters of Edwin Papala and Silas Shihenzi, both eyeing the MCA seat on Orange Democratic Movement and Federal Party of Kenya tickets respectively.

According to area assistant chief Alex Minish, Mwinamo also attacked his brother identified as Cedrick Vihembo with who they engaged in a physical fight prompting the intervention of locals in the remote Lirhende Village.

“We were taking supper when Chris came with a machete and started slashing us. I was sitting at the main door and chopped off my right hand when I tried to resist to his demands. He also injured his brother and other family members,” the victim narrated.

Mugaisi said it was not the first time that the suspect was behaving in a violent manner calling for the punishment of his son who he said could no longer be tamed.

“Enough is enough; the law must take its cause and let my son be punished so that it can serve as a lesson to the rest. He has invited a curse that will follow him to his fourth generation by rendering me a disabled man,” he lamented.

Esther Anzaya, a senior nurse at St Elizabeth’s Mukumu Hospital said the victim was brought to the hospital unconscious after losing a lot of blood along the way.

Anzaya said the victim had been transfused with two pints of blood.

“We have done dressing of the chopped hand and placed him under nursing care. He will also undergo psycho-therapy counseling to help him accept his current status,” she said while assuring that the victim was out of danger.

The brother is also said to be out of danger after the ordeal which left him with soft tissue injuries.
