IEBC clears way for Kidero to defend seat as Gumbo clear to face Rasanga

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 1 – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cleared Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero who will seek re-election on an ODM ticket.

Others cleared include Alfred Mutua who will also defend his seat in Machakos.

Mutua named his County Executive Member for Roads Francis Maliti as his running mate for the August 8 General Election.

Chirau Ali Mwakwere was given the green light to run for the governor’s seat in Kwale County on a Wiper Party ticket.

Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo was also cleared to run for the Siaya gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate.

Taita-Taveta Governor John Mruttu was cleared to seek re-election as an independent candidate.

Hassan Noor Hassan was also cleared to contest the Mandera governor’s seat on an Economic Freedom Party ticket.

Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya was cleared as his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi complained of interference in the process.

Governor Kingi is running on an ODM ticket.

Migori Governor Zachary Obado was also cleared.

The electoral body however declined to clear Thomas Mwadeghu as his running mate’s name on the papers he presented failed to match those on the ID.

In Nakuru, the electoral body suspended the clearing of independent gubernatorial aspirant James Mungai as his running mate George Nyaberi failed to present a degree certificate.

Lamu PNU gubernatorial aspirant Eliud Ndung’u Kinuthia was not cleared after his running mate James Matole Tuva failed to submit a degree certificate.
