Joseph Kamau Ngugi a Multimedia University student accused of making an improvised explosive Device (IED) when he was arraigned at a Milimani law court in Nairobi/CFM NEWS

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 25- A second-year Multimedia University student Joseph Kamau Ngugi will remain in police custody until Tuesday next week to enable police to conclude investigations for allegedly making an Improvised Explosive Device.

The student who was arranged in court is suspected to have had an ill motive by making the IED.

Nairobi magistrate Martha Mutuku heard that Kamau may have information which can assist the police in establishing the motive of making the explosive device.

According to Kamau, together with his classmates they were shooting a scene for a class project that required them to make an improvised explosive device.

“I asked the arresting police officer to call the crew and confirm this but they refused and arrested me,” Kamau said.

It is alleged that he made the IED and placed it inside a garage within the University, for an unknown reason.

He was handed over to ATPU who are still probing the matter which will assist them in deciding which other charges to prefer against him besides that of making an explosive device.
