NAIROBI, Kenya, May 19 – The Baringo Member of County Assembly (MCA) who has been missing since Monday has been found dead in Ol Donyo Sabuk.

The body of Thomas Loktari Minito of Churo Amaya Ward was found floating under a bridge in Ol Donyo Sabuk River, on Thursday night–the same spot where bodies of a lawyer, his client and a taxi driver were found last year.

Police said the body was decomposed beyond recognition but he was identified from documents found on him, including a URP party member’s card, according to area police chief Samuel Mukindia. “We believe he is the one from the documents found on him but further analysis will be done.”

The MCA had been facing charges related to incitement to violence in Baringo County where several people have been killed since last year–including British rancher Tristan Voorspuy.

Minito’s body, according to a police report seen by Capital FM News, had an injury on his head caused by a blunt object.

According to his family and local leaders, Minito was last seen in Baringo Monday, when three men who reportedly identified themselves as police officers took him out of a restaurant and informed him that he was under arrest. They drove away with him.

A woman he was with, later reported the matter and the local police station where police denied having arrested him.

Minito is considered influential in Baringo politics and his death may cause fresh tensions, according to local analysts.
