NAIROBI, Kenya, May 26 – A five-year-old pupil died on Friday following a dawn fire at a primary school in Nairobi’s Komarock Estate.
The incident occurred at Infill Academy.
“Unfortunately, there is one death. A five year old child to the school matron who stays in the block burnt beyond recognition,” said Pius Masai, the National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) Deputy Director. The fire started at 5.30 am and was contained by fire fighters from the County Government.
Masai said that most of the pupils were “already awake and taking their breakfast” when the fire broke out.
The cause of the fire had not been established.
“I thank all persons including rescue teams fire and national police service among others who contributed to the success of the operation in putting off the fire,” he said.
There was no immediate statement from the school authorities about the matter.
