Chama Cha Uzalendo says Ndeti still boss, cannot vie on Wiper ticket

Clearing Ndeti to vie on Wiper ticket, the party argues, is a violation of the Political Parties Act/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 31 – The Chama Cha Uzalendo party now wants the candidature of Wavinya Ndeti as the Wiper Democratic Movement’s Machakos gubernatorial aspirant halted.

The party wants IEBC restrained from allowing her to vie on grounds that she is still the party leader and chairperson of Uzalendo.

According to the party, IEBC cannot purport to accept the nomination of Ndeti under Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper, yet it has recognised her as the leader of Chama Cha Uzalendo.

Clearing Ndeti to vie on Wiper ticket, the party argues, is a violation of the Political Parties Act.

As a result, the party wants the High Court to make a declaration on Ndeti’s party status as shall be confirmed by the Registrar of Political Parties.

“We are requesting that the Registrar of Political Parties be directed to furnish IEBC with genuine list of party officials,” the party states.

In addition, Chama Cha Uzalendo seeks to restrain Ndeti from interfering with activities and affairs of the party in any way, allegedly because she has been carrying out its day-to-day affairs in conjunction with her associates.

“IEBC officials together with Ndeti and other persons who have purported to be officials of the party have by their acts and commission suppressed and illegally refused to accept and process the candidates of the party,” the party adds.

IEBC has been accused of refusing to accept and process candidates from the aggrieved party even after fully complying with all requirements set by the commission.
