Yes, it was painful but let us now unite behind a Raila presidency: Kalonzo

Kalonzo has called Nyenze “to order”/COURTESY

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 29 – Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka says the decision to once again shelve his Presidential ambitions in favour of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was painful.

All the same, he says his lieutenants need to get on board with the decision moving forward.

On Friday, Minority Leader Francis Nyenze took issue with the National Super Alliance line-up unveiled on Thursday which identified Raila as the Presidential candidate.

“Sometimes it’s very painful to take the decisions but once important decisions like the one that was taken is made, then it behooves all of us to move in that direction. I don’t want an impression created that Wiper Democratic Movement is divided in its resolve to support my own candidature as a running mate to Honourable Raila Odinga.”

Kalonzo however says that while he understands where Nyenze is coming from, he must now tow the line.

“It is not that we are looking for jobs,” Kalonzo said in response to President Uhuru Kenyatta. “Of course it is the responsibility of political leaders to seek power, power for the people.”

“So, please ignore those expressions perhaps of honourable Nyenze having wanted me to be the flag-bearer. And I know his feelings but now I have to call him to order.”

He also says that it is in the public domain that Raila will only serve one term should he win in August with negotiations ongoing on other areas of the agreement.
