NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 15 -Tension remains high in Kabete Constituency after one of the Jubilee Party’s leading aspirant Charles Chege Gitau went missing.
Tens of his supporters lit bonfires along Waiyaki Way before they were dispersed by anti-riot police officers.
His bullet-ridden vehicle was found dumped at Rungiri dam in Gitaru ward with nothing stolen from it according to Police and family members.
Police recovered his phones and other personal items he had before taking the vehicle to King’eero Police station.
The aspirant, famously known as Chege Fresh, went missing on Friday night at around 12pm after he dropped his driver in Kikuyu town ahead of Saturday’s launch of his manifesto.
Chege was to launch his manifesto at Kanjeru stadium in Gitaru area.
His sister Grace Gitau says the family is concerned by the move by King’eero Police Station detectives to move the vehicle from the Scene of Crime before their approval.
“We want answers but they’re telling us to go back home, “a visibly worried Gitau said.
She last spoke to their 32 years old last born at 7pm.
“He was meeting various youth groups ahead of today’s mega launch of the manifesto,” she said.
Already members of the public had started heading to the stadium,” before they heard of the shocking news.
“We just want to know where he is. My appeal is that whoever could be holding him to just release him. Our family is distressed. ”
Detectives in the area have launched investigations in a bid to establish his whereabouts.
Meanwhile, anti riot cops have been deployed in strategic areas to quell any chaos that may erupt.
Immediately after the news, there were protests by his supporters who demanded to know his whereabouts across various parts of the constituency.
One of them is Ken Wafula who describe Chege as a focused leader, who, “if elected will help us very much. He is a youth just like the majority of the population here. He knows and understands our challenges.”
“Who is this that want to eliminate competition…Chege was our favourite aspirant,” another who did not want be mentioned said.
