NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 1 – Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has condemned the shooting of two suspected thugs after a video emerged showing what appears to be an extra-judicial killing in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area.

Boinnet further ordered a probe to be conducted on the officers involved stressing that stern action will be taken against those fond culpable.

I have ordered thorough investigations on the shooting incident that occurred in Eastleigh,” the IG told Capital FM News which sought his comment on the viral video in which two plainclothes police officers are seen shooting dead a suspect while another lay dead on the ground.

“I have seen the video and I condemn those actions. Investigations have already started and I can assure you action will be taken against officers involved.”

It is not apparent from the video shot using a camera phone when the incident took place but reports indicate that it was the killing of a Gaza gang member.

In the video, the suspected gang member appears to have surrendered to a plain clothes policeman who nonetheless shoots him.

The Independent Medico Legal Unit (IMLU) has already reacted to the video condemning the incident and calling for immediate investigations.

“IMLU condemns misuse of firearms either by civilians or police officers and calls upon IPOA and IAU to move with speed to investigate alleged police involvement in this cold blooded murder,” the organisation stated.
