2017 KENYA ELECTIONS

Midiwo cries foul as he is trounced in ODM nomination

Midiwo claims the ODM nomination process was not free and fair/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya Apr 26 – Gem Member of Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo has lost the Orange Democratic Movement primary to his rival Elisha Odhiambo.

According to Gem Returning Officer Willis Anayo, Odhiambo got 13,400 votes, while Midiwo who is also the National Assembly Deputy Minority Leader got 8,950 votes.

In the third position was Rading Otieno with 1,821 votes.

Midiwo however rejected the outcome, arguing it was flawed.

“I do not understand the way the Returning Officer would do that. But he says he is under instructions and he will do what the party wants. In my opinion as Jakoyo Midiwo, that is self destruction,” he protested.

He indicated that the nomination was characterised by rigging.

“I want to state that the figures by my agents were not the same with what has been announced. There are numerous irregularities in the whole exercise,” he stated.

He further cited what he termed as massive irregularities saying that the whole process was flawed.

Others in the primary were JT Okinda who got 130 votes while Phabian Oriaro managed to get 54 votes.

Midiwo and Gumbo are among the ODM leaders who had earlier campaigned for Governor Cornel Rasanga, but later turned to be his fiercest critics after a serious fallout.
