NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 18 – Three University of Nairobi (UoN) students have been arraigned in court charged with stealing foodstuffs from the university’s main kitchen.

Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi heard that the students stole the items during student unrest in March this year and the items were only discovered in the students’ rooms during ceiling repairs.

On carrying out investigations, 75 kilos of rice, 20kgs of sugar, 8kgs of lentils, cooking fat, bar soaps, a packet of tea leaves among other items were recovered. Other items were found hidden in suitcases in the rooms.

The three were allegedly using their suitcases to sneak out the items for sale.

However, Kennedy Kiplagat Ngeno, Isaac Isika Musya and Andrew Peter Odhiambo all first year students at the University of Nairobi denied stealing the items worth Sh13,500.

They were freed on a cash of Sh20,000 or surety bond of 50,000 each pending trial.
