100 days to the election, ODM reveals who the ‘real’ winners in Nyanza are

NEB Chair Judith Pareno announced the results/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 29 – The Orange Democratic Movement’s National Elections Board has released the official list of winners of its primaries in Nyanza.

Board Chairperson Judith Pareno has identified Governors Cyprian Awiti and Cornel Rasanga as its gubernatorial ticket holders in Homa Bay and Siaya respectively.

This is despite Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo insisting that he beat Rasanga.

The NEB has also clarified that Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o won the primary for Kisumu governor beating the incumbent Jack Ranguma.

Nyong’o garnered 164,553 votes, while Ranguma garnered 98,575.

Again despite Jakoyo Midiwo’s protests, it has endorsed the position that Elisha Ochieng beat him in Gem but says the question of who between Ochilo Ayacko and Okoth Obado won its ticket for Migori governor is yet to be determined.

“Results for Migori gubernatorial ticket are yet to be released, there is a case pending with the tribunal on the same. We will release them once the case has been finalised,” she explained.

Obado was declared winner by County Returning Officer Samson Olala after garnering 110, 142 votes against Ayacko’s 59,000 votes.

However, later in day, County Elections Committee Chairperson Tom Boy Otike declared Ayacko the winner claiming he had garnered 110,350 votes against Obado’s 68,464.

“We recalled our returning officers in these counties and they gave us the numbers. Only the returning officer is supposed to announce the results of the elections, no one else is supposed to do it,” said Pareno.
